If you’ve played the game for a little while, you’ve probably seen one of the two events currently in the game, the “Arena” and “Tesla Defense”. These two events will soon be joined by a third. In today’s Dev Journal we’ll go over both already in the game and the event coming in version 1.3 named “Siege of the Spire”.
First, let’s talk about how you can join an event. If you’re high enough level, a button that looks like this will appear on your UI:
When it unlocks is actually a little vague at the moment, but with 1.3 it will be level 16. This is also the level you can do your first event! After you click the button, you’ll see this:
This is the general events tab. Just select one and enter the queue; if you win you get energy! There are also daily and weekly events with bigger rewards, so check ‘em out!
So now that you know how to get into one, let’s go over the events currently in the game. First up: the Arena survival event!
The basic premise of the Arena event is wave-based survival. You get a few breaks in between the ever-ramping difficult levels, but nothing stops those enemies from piling onto you. Well, until you reach the boss of course; he will present a whole different type of challenge. There’s currently an arena in the Refuge, Heartland Road and Meluan’s gate, and plenty more to come.
Now, Tesla Defense:
This event started off quite different from what it looks like now. First it was a giant, angry, pirouetting, bare-chested Corsair you were protecting from the brood (no, seriously). Now it’s a Tesla tower that you can activate to release a huge shockwave on its attackers! It’s a 5 person event that has enemies coming from 3 different sides; your objective is to defend the tower from the attacking hordes! The tower itself isn’t a slouch though; it fires bolts of electricity at anything that gets close. Survive the waves and reap the rewards.
On to the event that’s coming up in patch 1.3: The Siege of the Spire.
Although we already have PVP and the Wilderness level, we’ve now combined epic player versus player battles and spawning waves of monsters. Two teams duke it out in a MOBA-inspired arena with spawning mobs, turrets, monster spawners and a main base on both teams’ sides. There are three rows where the mobs duke it out, and the paths between them combined with the third person camera and limited visibility have already lead to some edge-of-seat battles at the office.
Your objective is to help the wave of monsters defeat the towers and to push in to the base of the opponents. When there you can kill the mob spawners and deal with the main base. That said, the turrets in this take on the MOBA genre are a bit more powerful than you might be used to, so proceed with extreme caution. We’re looking forward to you all trying this out very soon.
We’re very happy with the current 3 (4 if you count PVP tournaments) events we have. Having said that, we’re still working on getting more in the game, so keep an eye out for what’s to come!
